oh, this is just with how the bristles of the billow are placed.

The top of the bristle is black, adn the bottom is red. When you wipe down, you expose the top of the bristle, and when you wipe up, you expose the bottom. Simple. Heck, you can see that at times when rubing a dog or cat's fire the wrong way.
