This would actually lead to some interesting character dynamics:

Genos was forced to become a cyborg due to the robot attack and was denied his humanity and has become obsessed with destroying the killer robot, eschewing all social interactions beside with Dr. Kuseno.

Jenny, a sentient robot, whole thing is that she strives and longs for human interaction and acceptance.
