What if Giovanni has one of the Phantom Rubies which allowed him to not only warp reality like Aether Paradise into a castle or bring back some of the baddest bad guys from previous games, but from the fact how he could warp his way out of the current world to unleash his evil schemes upon.

It's a loose theory, but a fun little headcanon.
