Since the industry is revealing itself more and more to be a circlejerk, is it even POSSIBLE for a renaissance to happen? No one within the group seems to want to change and anyone who wants to make a change either gets chased out or leaves to move on to a more creatively free platform.

It feels like we'll either never get someone like Danny Antonucci or Joe Murray, or the industry will never allow for someone like them to rise.

This so much. It's someone playing classical piano music at a rock concert. If people start booing, it's not because you suck, it's because it's the wrong venue.
If they had shown that intro and said, "This is my original concept and it's a fantasy comedy, inspired by my love of anime and always drawing chibis as a child", I would've groaned at the art but at least given it a shot.
But since this is clearly an exec asking someone to run an IP through the TTG formula machine, there is no "identity" like an original product would have and that ends up pissing me off.

Like I said here, >>100665094, the style is not objectively bad. In /co/'s CalArts Edit threads you can see some that are genuinely good because it's both appropriate and done in a way that shows the style's good qualities rather than bad qualities, such as >>100658288 →.
To me, an art style is just another tool in the toolbox. It can be misused or abused just like any other trend. Thundercats Roar is an example of an art style being misused and poorly executed (though there is a small possibility of a pleasant surprise of things actually working out).

trends aren't necessarily bad, but fads are. That's it, really. This is a fad in as much as it's a stylistic copy-pasting that has zero thought put into its art direction, how it fits into the genre etc.
It's inevitable that some cucks will criticize the Calarts fad for the wrong reasons, but at the same time, the nepotistic douches are denying all criticism, and that's far worse. A pox upon their house and that of their Twitter circlejerk.

Extra!: Now Iin -Amid- Amidi seems to be supporting and defending Roar. Now I ain't saying he's getting paid WB bucks to promote it in a non-negative way, but I did see him walking out of his house in a new fur coat the other day.
