I'll be "that guy" and just say it should say "people who make false rape accusations should be prosecuted" because we really don't need to make it sound like only women are capable of making false allegations (I swear I remember once hearing about a man who tried to make fake allegations towards another man but I admit maybe I'm remembering something I saw in a movie once).
I mean, they typically are, but it's not a crime consistent with one the accused would've gotten. A person falsely accused of sexual assault could be sentenced to like 20+ years, maybe even a lot more but if the accuser is found to be lying they typically get nothing more than "filing a false police report" and a few other minor charges thrown in as well that nets them a few months of jail typically and a slap on the wrist.
False accusers need to start getting their own special charge, something like "Filing a false sexual assault allegation" that itself specifically means that they get a harsher sentence, and I'm talking maybe at least in the 5-10 year range and automatically comes with a restraining order against the accuser, and needs to be put on a registry so that people know that the person habitually attempts to ruin peoples' entire lives for their own personal satisfaction. But ONLY if we can prove malicious intent. If it's just they had the wrong person, that's a different and needs to be forgiven as an honest (albeit dangerous) mistake. However if there's texts that prove malicious intent (i.e., texts to a friend about ruining someone's life because how dare they dump me for so-and-so) then it gets the harsh punishment and registry.
