Scottish Pokémon Trainer - Chips, Not Fries

Potato chips as called by americans were invented in america when a cook was told the fries he served were too thick so he angrily shaved off really thin potato slices and fried them and served them, intending to be an ass/troll to the guy who made the complaint. Of course, then the new dish was a huge hit and the guy kept getting asked for it and eventually it spread.

But, story aside, being invented in America would imply that calling them “chips” is correct as opposed to “crisps”, but then again entymology is not something I know anything about.
