As someone born in both western & eastern culture… I never really had any fear of clowns.
But it doesn't help that usually the clowns-like actors in asia were usually characters that were guardians of children.

TDLR:
Simple way to say it, we asians are likely more scared of mimes. The absolute inverse of clowns.
