This incarnation of the Hasbro toy was developed for television by Lauren Faust, who had previously worked on the Cartoon Network series The PowerpuffGisand Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends with their creator, her husband Craig McCracken. The show is produced by Studio B Productions, in association with Hasbro Studios.!4 The show follows a studious unicorn pony named Twilight Sparkle as she is tasked by her mentor Princess Celestia to learn about friendship in the nearby town of Ponyville. Twilight becomes close friends with five other ponies Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie-each representing a different facet of friendship, sharing adventures and helping out other residents of Ponyville Despite the target demographic of young girls, the show has gained a large following from adults, in combination between Faust's direction and characterization, the animation style created through Flash, humor and themes aimed for an older audience and a reciprocal response from the creators in response to the fans. Seeing the young pony buried in books, the princess sends her to Ponyville and gives her the task of making friends. Along with her assistant, a baby dragon named Spike, she becomes friends with the tomboyish Rainbow Dash, glamorous Rarity, hard-working Applejack, timid Fluttershy, and hyperactive Pinkie Pie.
