How Karma Works - Theory

Ok so I think I'm pretty sure this is karma is actually calculated Discussion (self.teenagers) submitted 1 days ago by Mateicelsexos to/r/teenagers Feel free to correct me. After reading plenty of comments about people getting a certain number of upvotes, but getting really different ammount of karma and so on, I came up with a theory. When you post something anywhere on reddit, a timer starts. We know from earlier than it's upvotes per minute, and the more time passes the less karma the upvotes amount to, so that means once the post goes public, the first minute is one upvote for one karma. The next minute is one upvote for 0,9 karma, and so on. That's how 2 people with a 50k upvote post got 9k and 16k karma. It's all about how fast the post gets upvoted, so reddit promotes posts blowing up in the moment, so clickbait- y posts, rather than more qualitative content that takes long to read and i realise as i am writing this what I'm doing is being usefull but getting no karma in return lol.
