I just feel more bad for the tomboy. Low-key hanging out with a guy and genuinely liking their company, wanting to get a bit closer towards the end of school and leaving them a message, hoping to hear from them. Then silence…

The guy must not of valued her company very much to not even see what she wrote in his yearbook, or try and contact her at all of his own volition.

This is the equivalent of winning the lottery, still having the winning ticket intact in your possession, actually knowing where you have it, ACTUALLY having seen the winning numbers in time so you know you won, having no issues to go and redeem it while you can, and then not redeeming it because you were busy doing something daily and mundane for the entire ~6 months in which it was redeemable, then finding that lotto ticket years after on your house at random and remember that it was a winning number.
