This is a principle that should apply to both the left AND the right. Wanting to remove the likes of George Washington himself from the annals of history because he owned slaves---which I think we all agree was wrong---is throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Likewise, Trump's idea for schools to have a "patriotic" curriculum that glosses over things like slavery and the civil rights movement is straight up propaganda. You gotta take the bad with the good no matter where you stand.

As long as nobody is celebrating or glorifying the bad things from history, any and all forms of remembrance and documentation about them are not only OK, but also necessary. Pretending like they never happened to feel better today is just infantiziling yourself over events that practically nobody today condones anyway.
