Galadriel was born in Undying Lands. But for the dream of ruling a realm of her own she disobeyed gods and joined the Revolt of the Noldor and departed to Middle-Earth and gained the Doom of Mandos, a prophecy by god of death and Fate "slain ye may be, and slain ye shall be: by weapon and by torment and by grief." After War of Wrath and the overthrow of Morgoth, Galadriel refused the pardon of Valar (gods) because she was too proud and the Doom stayed on her. Galadriel spent thousands of years practicing and studying and ruling small groups of Elves and small cities (not her own cities). When King of Lorien died childless, she returned to Lorien (where she was once advisor or something) to save Lorien from the Enemy and she had all claims on the Elves of Lorien for being granddaughter of Olwe the King of the Teleri. The Sindar and The Silvan are connected and ultimately of Telerin descent. Anyways finally her dream came true and she became ruler of Lorien, a realm of her own. Galadriel made Lorien the most beautiful and advanced realm of the continent and protected it for over 1000 years until Frodo offered her the One Ring. If she turn down this offer her realm will be destroyed whether by true Lord of the Ring or by destruction of the Ring. The magic that keeps her realm timeless comes from Nenya her Ring of power and Nenya would lose its power if the One Ring gets destroyed and Lorien starts to decay and Elves can't suffer this. If she take the One Ring she can save Lorien and destroy Sauron and have the entire continent as a realm of her own but it also slowly turns her evil. Sometimes, to do what's right, we have to be steady and give up the thing we want the most. Even our dreams. And she did my precious she did. She overcame the Temptation of the Ring. She sacrificed her dream, her realm. And she gifted the most valuable things that she had to the Fellowship to save the world. With all this, she defeated the Doom of Mandos; the Doom was lifted on her. All the known characters who had the Doom of Mandos died except for her cousins Maglor and Idril. Maglor disappeared from the history but I think the Doom overcame him and he died of grief or decay of the world or something. Idril merely just survived the Doom for 500 years and with the favor of Ulmo god of the Sea she could return to the Undying Lands. But Galadriel survived the Doom of Mandos for 7000 years all by her own wisdom and power and eventually she became the only one who actually defeated it. And she returned to the Undying Lands. Me My GF who only asked what does Galadriel means by "I pass the Test. I will diminish and go into the West and remain Galadriel"
