Benoff and Weiss are Game of Thrones' executive producers and showrunners, who from Season One on had counted on GRRM having his sixth book completed and published so the tale could continue into the remaining seasons. As George has blown through every deadline he was ever given, they should have known better. The first four seasons were taken from the existing five books, and gave viewers a glorious adventure courtesy of the master storyteller. But from the beginning of Season Five on, Benioff and Weiss were on their own, and their "own" – I'm sorry to say – wasn't good enough. ions The Wonder Boys simply aren't screen writers and don't understand the fantasy genre as it appeals to adults. Unfortunately, that didn't stop them from butchering every character arc and carefully created plot point, from the slaughter of Doran Martell by the Sand Snakes (and a bigger bunch of twits has yet to be seen) to Daenerys' unexplained mental reversal leading her to roast thousands of innocent King's Landing residents. es George has said the show "needed" at least two more full seasons for completion, but Disney Studios called, waving three Star Wars movies at D&D. Of course, they answered, cutting Game of Thrones short and slapping together nonsense plots that left fans gasping in horror. m If the last four seasons didn't hurt the sale of the existing books in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, and sour potential followers on eventual sequels (whenever they reach the nublisher) l'd be astonished.
