Since everyone's bringing up longrunners, here's a few major examples.

  • Gasoline Alley – A comic strip longrunner, which has been around since 1918. What makes it remarkable is that the characters actually age in roughly real time, meaning the original protagonist is now over 120 years old in-universe.
  • Guiding Light – A soap opera that started on radio in 1937 and ended in 2009, with 15.762 episodes over 70+ years (ranging from 15 to 60 minutes).
  • Katzenjammer Kids – An American comic strip that ran for over 100 years, from 1897 to 2006, and still gets reruns in some papers.
  • Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies – Combined, the original run of these cartoons from the 30's to the 60's included 1002 shorts.
  • Meet the Press – The longest running show on American primetime TV, with over 3600 episodes since 1947.
  • Power Rangers – Sure, there is more Super Sentai stuff than Power Rangers, but having over 900 episodes in a single continuity is still noteworthy
  • Sazae-san – Technically the anime with the most episodes, with over 2500 seven minute episodes in total since 1969.
