Man, I miss the pure durability of old crts.

When I was younger, my house had a sharp 25 inch crt that had it's power cord ripped out. We took it out sode & me, my dad, and my brother took turns going at it trying to break the screen.

We started by hurling rocks at it, throwing hatchets at it, & taking a gas powered bb gun to it.

The last thing we did was talk my high power crossbow to it (somewhere around 200 pound draw strength). We kinda pierced the tv, but it shattered the bolt & the glass was only letting out a small whistle for a while.

I miss the pure fortitude of old tech.

Crts aren't made today because they are obsolete analog technology. The whole reason they were cheap to buy new up until the late 2000s was because there were mass manufacturing plants to drive the price down. With virtually zero demand today, running a modern crt business would be very much not profitable.
The solution these days is to just get upscallers to take lower resolution content and scale it to a modern screen. Something I find strange about crts is how s-video or VGA didn't immediately replace the composite standard, and how component was pretty much skipped over for HDMI. I guess the process of shifting over to true RGB video took longer than it did because of manufacturing costs.
