It's almost like setting up your expectations based on SNL skits WON'T reflect real life…

you know, this is something I realized a lot of people don't seem to know about neo-confederates; a solid chunk of them legitimately don't think the civil war was about slavery but was about state or constitutional rights. this usually translates to some of their own politics where they aren't really racist, but rather intensely libertarian, to the point of being borderline ancap. what I guess I'm trying to say, is that not all of these people are really malicious, just historically illiterate.
