Simple really:
1) It's easier to fit it in a small pot so you don't have to spend 2 minutes bending them in it.
2) It's still long enough to roll it around a fork anyway (if you break it once)
3) It doesn't change anything except making purists scream, which can be an enjoyable activity in itself.
