Related Explainer: Who Is Carly Minnick And Why Is She Getting Backlash On Twitter? The Infamous 'Nazi Salute' Controversy Explained

Overview

The Carly Minnick Nazi Salute Controversy on Twitter / X refers to the fallout after Twitter / X user Carly Minnick (@MinnickCarly or @coffeemousee) shared a photo of herself doing a "Sieg Heil" salute, known for its use by Nazis, in late February 2025. She posted the photo in a quote tweet responding to someone who said she wasn't real. This is because Minnick frequently shared pro-Nazi tweets while maintaining the image of a normal, white, middle-class, Gen Z girl. Minnick posted the photo of herself to prove it was really her behind the account. She received major backlash for the post, compounding with her prior hate posts. At the same time, she also garnered support from neo-Nazis and alt-right users. Minnick later claimed in a viral tweet that she got fired, leading to more memes mocking her.

Background

On February 24th, 2025, X[1] user @RealHeritageH quote tweeted user Carly Minnick (@MinnickCarly), writing, "$100 dollars to anyone that can prove this account is fake." The user was noting a perceived juxtaposition between the pro-Nazi posts and the young, Gen Z girl seen on the account's profile.

Later on February 24th, Carly Minnick then quote tweeted the abovementioned post on X,[2] attaching a photo of herself doing a Nazi salute, holding a piece of paper with the date and the words, "Yes I'm real." The post has since been deleted but a screenshot of it was added to archive.today,[3] which showed that it received over 38,100 views and 440 likes in five hours (shown below).

During the same timeframe, some alt-right X users criticized and mocked Carly Minnick for different reasons, mostly centering on her incorrect Roman salute because she used her left hand, not her right hand in the original photo. For instance, on February 26th, 2025, X[9] user @Thebiggestgloom tweeted, "Mid chick throws a shitty Roman with the wrong hand: gets 10k followers / I, a humble schizo racist, had to grind for my 9 real and 45 bot followers," gaining over 3,200 likes in a day (shown below).

Developments

Carly Minnick continued to post content on X in the following days and she changed her username to @coffeemousee.

On February 27th, 2025, she posted a tweet[10] showing herself in bed with the caption, "GM / We are going to win," presumably referring to "neo-Nazis" based on her recent posting history. The post received over 222,400 views and 1,700 likes in a few hours (shown below).

KYM winning with the word "claim" in the summary.

Because on one hand, I'm calling bullshit on this. But on the other, there are people who are so terminally online that they'll post shit like "boss needs to talk to me in 15 minutes it's an emergency" followed by "I got fired." 16 minutes later unironically.
