Yesterday afternoon I was queuing up to buy me beer, meat and crisps when an announcement came over the tannoy, "contactless is down everyone", the 4 people ahead of me were bleating and moaning, they all had a tappable card and couldn't pay for their items. The girl the checkout said to everyone "anyone using cash?", the people ahead of me shook their heads and I said "I'm using cash, I always do" The girl nodded and I went to the head of the queue, she put my stuff through and I paid in cash, as I did so I said to her "cash is king you know, there's no stupid electronic systems which refuse proper money", she grinned and nodded and handed me my change. As I went out the shop I saw others who were leaving who'd also paid in cash, while the ones with tappable cards were wandering around like lost sheep. I said to a pensioner who was leaving the shop "all those lot in there with their new fangled cards, they should all be using proper cash", he nodded and said "I've used cash all me life mate, and never had a problem".
