Bowser's "terrible machine" New Donk's "ingenious power source" NEW DONK CITY POWER Grand Star before being drained: Grand Star after being drained: bright, shining dull, lifeless Power Moon before being drained: Power Moon after being drained: bright, shining dull, lifeless Bowser's device is treated as nefarious and evil, with Mario being tasked to break it. New Donk City's device is treated as benign and essential, with Mario being tasked to fix it. While there might be any number of reasons why the former is worse than the latter, the immediate impression this gives off is that draining the energy of cosmic artifacts is "only bad when bad guys do it".
