The Hollywood version of Godzilla was an iguana turned monster. "GODZILLA" (1998) was the first Godzilla movie produced in Hollywood. Godzilla in this film is said to be an iguana transformed into a monster by French nuclear tests, and is depicted as a normal creature rather than a kaiju, in that it has no heat ray, eats fish such as tuna, lays many eggs, and is killed by conventional weapons. Although the film was criticized as "un-Godzilla-like." there are many aspects of the giant creature that are worth enjoying, such as the suspense that precedes its appearance and the sense of enormity it conveys, as well as elements that later Japanese Godzillas seem to have adopted, such as how it swims underwater and the way the sea surface swells before it arises. The Hollywood version of Godzilla appears When Zilla first appears in Sydney, it is portrayed in a straightforward manner as a large monster, but in battle it is instantly wiped out by Godzilla. It is no exaggeration to say this showed off the power differential between original Godzilla and Hollywood's. The Tristar version (the original Zilla) was entertaining enough and well-made, but it received harsh reviews because of a lack of resemblance to the original, and it was felt a true Godzilla fan should be critical of it. However, it wasn't a classy move for the original Godzilla to poke fun at Zilla to garner favorable public opinion. It is sinful to have delightfully accepted an endorsement the Xilien controller's line, "A monster that eats tuna is miserable."
