NEWS - Marcia Wallace Has Passed Away Reported by Foxwolf at 5:02 PM on Sat Oct 26 2013 Marcia Wallace, who was the voice of Bart's teacher Edna Krabappel on The Simpsons passed away this morning at the age of 70. The cause of death is currently unknown. As news spread some members of the show expressed their condolences Yeardley Smith (voice of Lisa Simpson) blogged - "Cheers to the hilarious, kind, fab Marcia Wallace, who has taken her leave from us." "Heaven is now a much funnier place because of you." Producer Al Jean in a statement said "I was tremendously saddened to learn this morning of the passing of the brilliant and gracious Marcia Wallace. She was beloved by all at 'The Simpsons' and we intend to retire her irreplaceable character. Earlier we had discussed a potential storyline in whicha character passed away. This was not Marcia's Edna Krabappel. Marcia's passing is unrelated and again, a terrible loss for all who had the pleasure of knowing her." Unlike some other secondary characters who've received new voice actors, lawyer Lionel Hutz and celebrity Troy McClure were also retired after the death of Phil Hartman in 1998 Wallace won an Emmy for her role as Mrs. Krabappel Source: deadline.com
