I have only been spattered by oil once, and I didn't know that this was something that happens prior to it happening. It was a light spatter across my chest, as I wasn't wearing a shirt. Cue me stumbling backwards while clawing at my chest like there was an alien parasite trying to get into it.

Note to self: Wear shirt while cooking with pans.
