Crossguard Lightsaber - It's called a guard and it's designed so you don't get your arms chopped off.

Are normal sword guards made out of miniature swords? Last time I checked, no. So even as a guard, it does fail a little bit.

I doubt you can block a lightsaber with metal, and the only thing we know of that can block said lightsaber is another lightsaber.
