![[Spoilers] A different perspective on Bizmuth's actions from a US Marine (self.stevenuniverse) 807 submitted 2 hours ago by kyouger Hey everyone. I'm a US Marine and I've been watching SU since around The Arrival. I love Steven Universe because of its animation, well written characters and how it doesn't shy away from hard issues like lost love, PTSD and abandonment. Plus, Steven and Connie are the best kid couple ever. Since there's been so much discussion about Bizmuth's actions and wether they were justified or not given the context of the war, I felt that some of you might like to hear what it's like to actually be part of the military. So, here goes First off, Bizmuth is a great example of what a modern soldier acts like most of the time. She's got a strong sense of duty to her cause, loves to roughhouse for fun and also kick back with her buddies as hard as possible. I loved her character, and I definitely want to give a kudos to the SU team for doing their research better than a lot of hollywood movies But then comes the parts where it starts to get a little bit real for me. Bizmuth was in an incredible amount of pain after coming back from being bubbled. I've been lucky enough to never have lost anyone close to me in combat the four years I've been in, but I've heard dozens of stories from the people I've served with who have lost dear friends in firefights. I see more people walking around with black wristbands with names engraved on them than I'd care to admit. That kind of stuff changes a person. There's no doubt that Bizmuth has lost friends during the war, and then to wake up 5,000 years later and find out that almost everyone she ever knew (as far as she knew) were dead would have been more than enough to send her over the edge. From my perspective, it would be like having been in Iraq or Afghan for five months, seeing other members of my unit die, getting into an argument with my commanding officer (Rose) then coming to six months later to find I've been in a coma and my entire squad is dead and the enemy I was fighting the last time have only gotten stronger and are still threatening my new friends' lives. Scary stuff to think about. Now the future, this is where I have to disagree with her. Rose made it very clear from the begining of her rebellion that the Homeworld gems were to be poofed and bubbled, not shattered. This is what we call an SOP, or Standard Operating Procedure. It's a set of self-imposed rules that the chain of command sends down so that each individual fighter will know how to make split-second decisions without having to consult higher every single time. These can include things like how to handle enemy POWs, when to shoot at threats and when to call them in, or dealing with civilians Disobeying SOP is a HUGE no-no in combat, which is why they are often made as broad as possible to cover a variety of different scenarios. Bizmuth was going against the SOP that Rose established when she started the rebellion wh the Breaking Point. As much as I like Bizmu aracte ope dearly t comes back sometime in ma the Breaking Point. No matte ow good might be, if bu ot fighting the shelf. No o mention the fact that gems can be SOP, th disabled without ending their lives, which is a HUGE differ from modern combat. If we had the choice to either ular kill de 00%-efficien ullets, we'd alwa oose the latter. But modern AK ets ombat ortunately doesn't work that way, and t is with let dude with orce.
