Amazing Horse (also known as “Get on My Horse”) is a viral flash animation of a gentleman on a horse and a woman singing and dancing to a catch tune with funny lyrics. Since being uploaded on Weebls-Stuff.com in September 2009, this video has inspired others to create their own covers and remix videos on YouTube. The phenomenon of “Amazing Horse” is not to be confused with “Look at This Horse” or “Look at This Duck.”

Prior to the release of “Get On My Horse”, Weebl’s fan animations had an already established fan base. But in the months following the release of Get On My Horse, traffic to Weebl’s site weebls-stuff.com saw a noticeable spike, gaining an average of around 10,000 visits per month.

Shortly after its release, Get On My Horse was released, Kevin Padillac registered the domain shutupwomangetonmyhorse.com without any ads, driving traffic to Weebl’s creation.

However, Denied registered getonmyhorse.com on October 12th, 2006 without permission from the original author, placing ads on the site, taking credit much to Weebl’s dismay.

Denied announced the launch of the site on DigitalGangster.com where his profile reads “owner of the groundbreaking http://getonmyhorse.com”

Weebl found the thread and responded:


Hey Denied.

If you’re going to steal my work then don’t stick a load of ads on the page because that’s just taking the piss.

It’s also pretty lame to not even host the file yourself and just leach it from shutupwomangetonmyhorse.com (which has no ads so you know…)

1: He never asked. If someone takes your tv but said “Credit to Electronic Daltronic for having a nice TV for me to take” would that be ok? If people are polite then I usually allow it. As it stands fuck him.

2: I have no problem with people making money when they’ve actually done something.

I don’t really mind shutupwomangetonmyhorse.com since they are hosting the file themselves rather then leeching like Denied is. (Woo. Let’s make money and not even pay for the hosting. Awesome!!) and they’re not running ads.

Get On My Horse was also uploaded to Newgrounds by TheWeebl. The date listed on the Newgrounds page is October 26th, 2009.

The very next day, the animation was awarded the NewGrounds Review Crew Pick, Daily Feature, and Weekly 2nd Place.

mrweebl uploaded the video to Youtube on September 29th, 2009. Unfortunately for Weebl, 6 months after the upload, he has yet to scratch 200,000 views. This is largely due to the fact that the video has been reuploaded on Youtube by many users. The most-viewed is “Amazing Horse – Weebl’s stuff [HD]” uploaded by krunk0r which has over 3 million views.

Derivatives

By October 28th, Youtuber omnomnomandrew uploaded a video of himself singing an acoustic cover of the song.

On November 9th, 2009, rockabillie uploaded her own acoustic cover.

The song has also been covered by the Italian band Nerd Folia.

There have been a number of other covers and remixes in various styles.

Weebl’s Followup

In March of 2010, Weebl uploaded a cover of his own, this time performing the song with a jazz swing.

Google Insights

Despite initial doubt from some commenters over the meme status of the viral flash animation, search traffic and the creation of derivative works have endured at a relatively steady for the last six months. Amazing Horse has proven to be a strong meme indeed.
