About

Can Someone Photoshop The Eiffel Tower Under My Finger? is a photoshop meme based on a photograph of a failed attempt at forced perspective in which a man is shown pointing his finger far below the tip of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.

Origin

On April 17th, 2015, an anonymous 4chan user started a photoshop request thread on the /b/ board with a souvenir photograph of himself standing next to the Eiffel Tower, asking "can someone photoshop the eifeltower (sic) under my finger?”[1] (shown below). The post received 319 replies before its archival via 4archive.org[1], where it had received almost 9,000 views by the end of the month.

Precursor

The photoshopped parodies of the Eiffel Tower can be seen as a spin-off of a very similar photoshop request thread submitted to 4chan's /b/ in December 2011, in which the original poster asked seasoned image editors to photoshop the Sun between his fingers.

Spread

On April 21st, many of the photoshop edits were featured on UK viral media culture site The Poke[2]. The next day, a Dutch food blogger named Sid Frisjes identified himself as the original poster of the photograph on his website Coolinary[5] in an article about French pastry chef Pierre Hermé's macaron, highlighting the trail of photoshopped parodies that spawned from the souvenir photograph with a link to The Poke article. On April 24th, the post and its edits were featured on Mashable[3], where they received over 9,300 views in less than six days. Two days later, the UK tabloid The Mirror[4] highlighted the Eiffel Tower photoshop parodies as well, calling Frisjes’ promotion of his food blog via photoshop meme "cringeworthy".
