About

Photoshop Me Into a Dangerous Situation is a series of photoshop request parodies in which people digitally alter a photograph to make someone appear as if they are in a threatening situation.

Origin

In February 2013, the Chinese news site Bejing Daily posted collection of photoshop request troll images, including a picture of a man smoking a cigarette asking to appear "more dangerous" edited with a lit firecracker in his mouth (shown below).[5] On February 4th, the collection was reposted by the Asian news site RocketNews24.[6]



Spread

On March 6th, 2016, a post titled ""Can you photoshop the picture to make it look like I'm in a dangerous situation" was submitted to 9gag[2], featuring a photo of a man bent over on a river bank edited with another man's legs lurking behind him(shown below). Within one year, the post gained over 38,700 points and 160 comments.

On January 9th, 2017, Instagram user @fjamie013[4] uploaded a photoshop request asking "can u make me doing something dangerous?", to which he replied with an edited photo of gas bubbles coming in between his legs (shown below). Within three months, the post gathered more than 41,400 likes and 550 comments.

On March 16th, 2017, Redditor Neptunion posted a picture of a man wearing a "Dank Memer" shirt next to a man wearing an "/r/Dankmemes Mod" shirt with the caption "Photoshop me to a dangerous situation" to /r/dankmemes,[7] where it received more than 730 votes (96% upvoted) within 24 hours (shown below, left). The following day, Redditor ARetardedPickle uploaded a photograph of a young boy photoshopped with a police officer aiming a shotgun at his head along with the same caption to /r/MemeEconomy,[3] speculating that the photoshop memes were "on the rise" (shown below, right).
