About

Cat Curling is a series videos of people sliding their cats across the floor to mimic the olympic sport of curling.

Origin

The earliest know iteration of Cat Curling was posted in 2006 by Zachary Bennett. However, the video was removed and re-uploaded on May 22nd, 2011 by YouTuber [3] ziggbiggydiggy. The video features actual footage of the 2006 United States Women's Curling Team in play. However, in the video, a cat is superimposed over the granite stone. The video (shown below) received more than 2.5 million views in seven years.

Spread

The following year, on February 12th, 2007 YouTuber[1][2] Bill Healey posted the first videos to feature real cats sliding across the flow. That day, he posted two videos of a cat being hurled across the floor with the titles "Cat Curling" and "Cat Curling Two" (shown below, left and right, respectively).

On September 7th, 2014, YouTuber[4] Terry Goodship posted a similar video entitled "Cat sliding / cat curling (sounds awful/cats love it)." The post (shown below) received more than 727,000 views in three and a half years.

In the years since the first video was posted, several media outlets have published articles on the trend, including E! News,[5] The AV Club,[6] HuffPost[7] and more.
