About

As defined by Urbandictionary, a cluebat is: "A metaphorical bat used to ‘beat some sense into’ someone who is blatantly stupid."

These "blatantly stupid people" are often referred to as lusers. The term "luser" refers to both "clueless or naïve" people and "annoying or irritating" people.

The cluebat is also known by the names: Luser Attitude Readjustment Tool (LART), clue by four, or cluestick.

This is how the term might be used:

  • "Some guy just tried to install ‘crack_hotmail_passwords.exe’ and he wonders why his machine is full of crap. Someone needs to beat him with a cluebat."

Usage

Visually, a cluebat is depicted as any blunt object that could potentially cause harm (spiked bats, baseball bats, nightsticks, boards, etc.).

The Cluebat has also been "used" on 4chan to discourage new users from "feeding trolls" or to "educate newfags". For example, the cluebat might be referred to in a “Newfags Can’t Triforce” thread.

Bokusatsu Tenshi

The most popular use of the meme originates from the Japanese anime, Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan, otherwise known as Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan (2005). In the series, Dokuro-chan, an angel, often smashes Sakura with a large metal, spiked club called Excaliborg:

The cluebat has been associated with Dokuro-chan and her Excaliborg ever since.
