Garfield has been the subject of over 200 YTMNDs since 2004. There is little cohesion in theme, as most of them seem to have been simply inspired by mainstream exposure of a highly-syndicated cartoon.

Add LasagnaCat.com, though the parodies are more affectionate than absurdist like the others.

I'd call you out for copying most of the comment I made on your other Garfield post, but I copied most of those from another article I found online, so: moot it is.

As the incredible genius behind GMEMTO&D, I heartily endorse this meme.

I assume this to be a rather new Garfield Parody, but it is a parody.

If anything, Garfield Minus Garfield might be the only one that's really noteworthy out of all Garfield Parodies.

The entire subject of Garfield parody is less popular than Garfield Minus Garfield.

I'm going to investigate the origins of each of these other parodies. If I find that they came after Garfield Minus Garfield, then I think we ought to actually turn this entry into the sub-meme.

I agree with Chris that making this into the sub-meme of Garfield Minus Garfield would be much better based on G-G's popularity compared to Garfield parodies as a whole. When that's accomplished…

Is 'Garfield go back to bed' also a meme?

    0
  • Chris Menning - 14 years ago

    @Random

Isn't that a regular catch-phrase directly written into the comic?

You're gonna need to provide some examples of the phrase used in a new context to start considering if it's a meme or not.

Well, in addition to the three Garfield edits of mine I uploaded myself, I uploaded some Garfield edits I found from the YCP website.

  • PSE1nf0 - 14 years ago

That's odd. I've been trying to delete one I submitted (since the warning I put on it was too distracting) but it won't get deleted.

Anyways, I'll be looking for more to add.

Does anyone know who created "Garfield go back to bed"? The original strip itself is from 2004:
    http://www.garfield.com/comics/vault.html?yr=2004&addr=041222

And this guy is acting like he created it (about 2/3 of the way down):

Never mind; I tracked down the guy and he denies being the creator.

Is it possible to have a "reverse parody"? Taking something comedic and goofy and making it ridiculously dramatic and intense? Because I feel like that label applies here.

also, lycan jonze garfield is the best anime 11/10
