Hopkin Green Frog (2004)

added May 17, 2009 at 06:16PM UTC

Origin

September 2003… several posters about a missing frog are found in Seattle. “Terry” seemed quite determined to get a frog back. A Hopkin Green Frog.

One year later the website lostfrog.org surfaced. It gained attention quickly, and the popular community forum Metafilter had two threads about Hopkin and the search to find him.

Usage

The meme’s purest form is the search to find and the sightings of ol’ Hopkin. Here’s a video about the search

Example

Followup

Hopkin has yet to be found, but what has been found is the story behind it.

It’s seems Hopkin is not an actual frog but a toy given out by McDonald’s with their Happy Meals during their “Animal Alley” campaign.

The Terry character was a 16 year-old boy who suffered from autism. According to this article, Terry’s father does not wish that Terry has his frog returned to him.

Because of his Father’s orders, Terry’s search will go on forever. The quest to find Hopkin Green Frog will never ever end.

p.s. I’ll find my frog, who took my frog

I don’t like this one. I mean, he had autism. Why is everyone making fun of him? :(

hmmm…i just feel i should add my 2 cents on this topic…

having autism isn’t all that bad if you know what you’re doing. and for the people who are a bit confused about autism, not all autistic people act like/think that they’re considerably younger, i’m in a class with about half a dozen other kids with autism, not a single one of them act like 5 year olds. granted, we all have ridiculously bad hand writing, but it just happens.

the only time i’ve ever seen someone like that is when we had someone new in our class(who got moved back to his old class the following day), his name started with a k but for the life of me i cant remember what it was. it was a very interesting day, to say the least…

Actually, if it’s high-functioning autism, it has the opposite effect of typical autism. It accelerates the maturity of the person in question. A person with autism who is say, 14 years of age may sound like he/she’s in his/her mid 20’s.
It’s quite complex unless you’re interested in psychology.
