About

The Long Neck Reaction Guy (LNRG), also referred to as Recoil Guy or Horror Guy, is a staple reaction image, and sometimes featured in rage guy comics. When someone posts something too bizarre, disgusting, or otherwise horrifying, Long Neck Reaction Guy can be used to demonstrate the emotional reaction of recoiling in horror. Also see: DO NOT WANT.

Origin

LNRG originated in a comic produced on 4chan’s /v/ which some refer to as “Cum, Hisao!” that mocks the twisted Japanese “cripple fetish” hentai games. The specific game is Katawa Shoujo, a dating game in which the player is able to romance a number of women with crippling disfigurations (it must be pointed out that the game is actually developed by 4chan users). In the comic, a person playing Katawa Shoujo recoils away from his screen in horror after his player character ejaculates on a female character while shouting, “Ima rub my cum in yo burn scars!”

The original “recoil” image began to be posted as a reaction image, with the neck beginning to be drawn progressively longer in each one.

Variants

At least two slightly edited versions of the Long Neck Recoil Guy now exist, but they are used interchangeably and for the exact same purpose. The more popular variant is the version depicted as the main image of this entry: a much more simplistically drawn stick figure with a huge, horrified frown.

Appearances

Long Neck Reaction Guy is now seen frequently in /v/, but almost equally as frequently in /b/ and other boards.[1] It spread rapidly to other forums.

“the twisted Japanese “cripple fetish” hentai games”…
Now this is something I have to disagree with. People need to learn to do their homework before opening their mouths. I have played the so-called twisted game mentioned above, and here are facts that people should know to stop giving Katawa Shoujo bad reputation:
1. The game is not about “cripple fetish”. It’s about a boy with heart problems, sent to a special school, and can choose to be the soul-mate of one of the 5 girls with different disabilities. It’s about understanding people, and seeing beyond the outer appearances. It’s definitely and totally not about sex.
2. So far, only the first Arc of the game has been released, and there is no mature content yet. The full game, planned to be released in 2011 will have mature content, but only about as much as your avarage movie. It is not the developers’ intention to put emphasis on the sex, but on the story. There will be sex because it’s just a natural thing in life. As a matter of fact, the player can choose to skip the sex part. Katawa Shoujo is a visual novel. So condemning the game a hentai game is just a proof of pure ignorance.

3. This game is not from Japan. It’s being developed by Four Leafs Studio, which originated from 4chan. The developers are trying hard to make a qualiity product, and will release the game for free, refusing to receive any donation, saying that “money would kill us”, and encouraging people to donate money to charity instead.
So there you have it. Katawa Shoujo is being made as a visual novel, not a hentai game. It’s a product driven by passions, not money. And definitely it does not aim to cater to any “cripple fetishes”. As someone who has been following the production of the game for years, I can’t bear it when people arbitrarily spout nonsense when they don’t know any better. So get your facts right, and give Katawa Shoujo the right recognition it deserves.
