About

No Lackin Challenge is a video fad in which people film themselves brandishing firearms and pointing the weapons at unsuspecting victims to provoke them into displaying a firearm in return. The game is meant as a way to test the readiness of people who are living in high crime areas.

Origin

According to the HipWiki,[5] the slang expression "no lackin" was initially popularized among Chicago gang members. On June 13th, 2012, rapper Lil Mister released a song titled "No Lackin" (shown below).

On August 15th, 2014, Urban Dictionary[4] user Been Krill submitted an entry for "No Lackin," defining the term as "Not having a firearm on you" (shown below, left). The exact origin of the "No Lackin" challenge is unknown. The earliest known example was uploaded by YouTuber Chase BanzVIDEOS in a video titled "Never Get Caught Lacking in Chicago 'Challenge'" on September 11th, 2017 (shown below, right).

Lackin Not having a firearm on you Ran up on dat n----, caught him lackin. I'm never lackin.

Spread

On October 4th, 2017, YouTuber Robert Michael uploaded a compilation of No Lackin Challenge videos (shown below). On October 7th, YouTuber King Bamm uploaded a parody video in which he walks in on somebody in the bathroom with a firearm (shown below, right).

Shooting

On January 25th, 2018, 21-year-old Sherman Lackland (shown below) shot a 17-year-old in the head while playing the challenge in Memphis, Tennessee.[3] On January 27th, a thread about the challenge which mentioned the shooting was submitted to the Kiwi Farms[2] forum, which gathered upwards of 30 replies in 24 hours. On January 28th, The Daily Mail[1] published an article reporting that the 17-year-old boy remained in critical condition "fighting for his life."

Now I understand why those trends called "challenges". Because you have to be mentally challenged to participate.

Someday cop will see someone doing this challenge, shoot him and then Murican citizens will scream about racist police brutality and that he dindu nuffin.

Society: "Don't let your kids play videogames or watch too much TV, those are unhealthy, uneducative hobbies and they'll end up imitating what they see on them and hurt themselves or worse."

Kids of pro-videogame families: [Quietly playing games/watching Let's Players at home, with being socially awkward being the worse case scenario]

Other kids: [Imitating literally every stupid thing they see celebrities doing no matter what it is, possibly killing themselves in the process, all just to get social acceptance from other kids raised with the same principles that their families allowed to happen]

Huh, never thought of it this way.

Not a parent, but i'd rather shove my kids in front of a video game for 10 hours a day than 1 hour in front of those aforementioned celebrities. And don't get me started on the violence you see on the news.

These seem to be done in already dangerous area and you are literally pulling guns on random people and EXPECT them to pull a gun on you in turn, the heck.

Oh man, an utterly stupid social media """""Challenge""""" Where you do something stupid, suicidal or dangerous ends up with someone dead because they took it seriously.

This has been happening for over a decade, you'd think they'd start teaching how dangerous this stupid shit can be in schools alongside that mandatory drug/alcohol education.

Ohohoho. From the moment I read the first sentence, I knew I was going to have some strong words for this one.

Some of the primary rules of gun safety are
-"Never point a gun at someone you're not willing to kill"
-"Never use a gun as a threat"
-"Even when you know the gun isn't loaded, the gun is loaded"
-"Don't draw a gun unless you're ready to be shot"
Guns are not fucking toys. The idea of a challenge, whose goal is to go into high crime areas, and pull a gun on someone as if you're ready to shoot them, to see if they pull their gun out ready to shoot you back, is the stupidest challenge you can ever come up with. You know, I was going to go for one of those infinite regression comment screenshots for every fake "challenge" meme, but fuck it on this one, this is too serious.

The main reason for the above gun safety rules is because once you pull a gun out at someone, intentions or not, you are legally threatening their lives, and not only do they have the right to end your life, but people around them have an obligation to. Pointing a gun at someone is the quickest way to get shot yourself, it's basic gun safety. I, who has never touched a firearm in his life, knows this. Not only that, but you are also never supposed to put your finger on the trigger unless you intend to shoot. If you have no intention of shooting your friend, why the fuck is your finger on the trigger? You are asking for accidental discharge.

How fucking stupid are you that you think this kind of challenge can end in anyway other than someone dead? I'm honestly surprised this is how the first victim is claimed, not the person the challenge is sprung on shooting back! It's not funny. AT ALL! Personally, if you ever tried this challenge at me, I'd call the police and have you charged for making threats on my life, I don't care who you are. I'm pretty justified in that stance given what happened here. Fuck this shit, and fuck everyone participating in this challenge, I hope you get the maximum sentence for manslaughter/attempted murder.

If there's one thing I learned, is that even in friendly situations, always be ready for shit to go down. Even in a conga party, always keep an eye on that one scout that switched from his melee to his scattergun. That alone should be enough of a test of anyone's reflexes.

There are so many things wrong with what goes through the mind of someone who decides 'I'm gonna pull my loaded gun on one of my friends for shits and giggles.' that I don't even know where to start.

And no surprise, someone got shot for pointing a real gun at somebody else in an area known for high gun violence.

Which is why i never understand when americans tell us that we europeans should be able to openly buy weapons.
You can buy weapon in europe but you need to be in a shooting federation where you get a proper training on how to weild a firearm in the first place. Once that is done you can buy any small caliber or hunting caliber weapons. If you want a 9mm a .45 or other bigger callibers like that you also need to get a background check which you easily pass unless you are marked as a terrorist or a criminal of course.

It's the individualism that America was founded on. To your typical American (or, at least your typical gun owner), YOU are responsible for your own safety. That's why gun owning Americans usually scoff at the need to be approved by some bureaucracy in order to buy your own instrument of defense. Combined with the Second Amendment, that's why they scoff at mandatory safety/training courses.

Driving isn't enshrined in our constitution as a right :^)

Even then, you only need to have a license to drive on public roads. You need no certification to drive on your own property, much like carrying a loaded weapon.

If you want a 9mm a .45 or other bigger callibers like that you also need to get a background check which you easily pass unless you are marked as a terrorist or a criminal of course.

this whole thing just shows how wildly the differences in cultures can be even within this country. to people living in the suburbs they cant ever imagine a game like this, because why would they? its an unsafe game with something that could kill you. its fucking dangerous to point a loaded weapon at people.

but in the rougher places in this country…….they are all carrying because that shit can happen for REAL at any time. and so this game was made to make sure your friends and acquaintances and even strangers whom you assume would not shoot you are prepared just in case. they do it because it can save your or your buddies life. one person died because of this game…….but how many died because they were lacking?

different cultures in the same country. its pretty fascinating. and its fascinating how certain areas of america are still pretty much the wild west in some ways too.

    -8
    • Can of Beans - 6 years ago

Concealed Carrying is actually very popular with many people in the US, no matter what their background is. Plenty of suburbanites carry a gun with them every day. The issue is that generally, those who carry a gun legally have respect for the law and respect the power their weapon has, whereas those who carry illegally are much more likely to do dumb shit with it, like this entry.

I am so full of rage at the moment that it isn't even funny.

I live in Montana. I have an AR 15 with two magazines each with thirty rounds ready at all times.(1) Before you ask I keep my rifle unloaded, cleaned, and maintained at all times, making sure to keep the ammo away from the weapon out of respect for the power that each bullet as well as the rifle has. (1 Note: I know that keeping the magazine loaded could cause damage to it and because of that, routinely unload, clean and maintain them)

My weapon is a tool that demands respect. The only job it has is to kill. And anyone who jokes around with guns aren't just insulting the respectable gun owners who undergo years of training to master their weapon, they are disrespecting the hundreds of millions of people who have died because the misuse of it.

Don't take this shit lightly and knock it the fuck off.

The rate at which these "challenges" get worse do come close to the pacing of an SCP:

Part 1-2: Supernatural entity compels people to do something strange but harmless (Ice bucket challenge)

Part 2: Entity compels people to do something mildly dangerous to themselves (Cold water challenge)

Part 3: Entity compels people to do something very dangerous to themselves (Tide Pod challenge)

Part 4: Entity compels people to do something dangerous to themselves and others (this)

Part [REDACTED]: Entity compels people to perform ritualistic mass murder to summon a world-destroying monstrosity, SCP foundation armed forces show up and kill the challenge-takers to heroically save the world.

I'm pretty sure it's the same as what we used as the default ammo for US planes till the end of Korea. They didn't go boom like 20mm, but they had lovely ballistics. So lovely, in fact, the Bell X-1 was modeled after a .50 cal. Not a bullet in general, specifically a .50 cal
          also, they were incendiary.

    -1
  • Can of Beans - 6 years ago

It's the individualism that America was founded on. To your typical American (or, at least your typical gun owner), YOU are responsible for your own safety. That's why gun owning Americans usually scoff at the need to be approved by some bureaucracy in order to buy your own instrument of defense. Combined with the Second Amendment, that's why they scoff at mandatory safety/training courses.

Driving isn't enshrined in our constitution as a right :^)

Even then, you only need to have a license to drive on public roads. You need no certification to drive on your own property, much like carrying a loaded weapon.

Let me see if I've go this straight. The purpose of this challenge is to determine if an individual is armed with a live and loaded firearm. One does so by pulling their own weapon and scaring the piss out of them to test their reaction.

They are deliberately trying to trigger a fight/flight response in someone they expect to have a loaded gun.

I'm not surprised someone is dead.

I'm surprised that only ONE person is dead.

Let's advance this challenge to No Lackin': Cop Edition. If you're shot because you're an armed citizen threatening an officer, you lose. If you are arrested, you lose. The only winners are the civilians not participating because you're not roaming the streets anymore.

Fun Fact: The coconut is one of the few edible fruits with a confirmed body count, killing people by dropping from the tree, and onto the unsuspecting victim's cranium.

And yes, it too kills more people per year than sharks do, at an average of 150.
