It might be a Fifth-gen Toyota Celica (personally my favorite gen). The front corner lights beside the pop-up headlights look similar.

I think you solved the mystery. It does look closer to the first-gen Saturn SC.

Same antenna on its side, same corner light, same boxy headlamp (the Celica's lamp is more rounded on the sides upon closer inspection). Also has the same front bumper that swoops downward compared to the Celica's steeper bumper.
