Why does every friggin' character need to be redeemed into a cuddly wuddly fluffball? Some people in real life are just plain asshats, and some characters are that way too. We love to hate Gilda because we were supposed to love hating Gilda. A lot of Trixie's fans are just as bad, and their fanfics and art completely defanged ger to the point where the "fanon" version is not even the same character. They just decide they like a character design and then completely ignore everything else about the character.
