Origin
On March 28th, 2024, X[1] user and webcomic artist @FallenChungus posted a comic in which a character facing the viewer points to a hotdog riding a skateboard in the background, the hotdog labeled "literal coolest thing ever," and says, "This fucking sucks actually," garnering over 50,000 likes and 5,300 reposts in just over a month (shown below).
Spread
The comic became the subject of "photoshops": over the following weeks, altering various aspects of it to make the character suggest that something subjectively cool sucks, poking fun at people online who have contrarian viewpoints on a given topic. On April 1st, X[3] user @Settacutie posted an edit of the meme replacing the text in the speech bubble with "April fools actually" as a quote-repost to Mojang's April Fools joke, which seemed to tease an update allowing players to build moving sculptures in Minecraft, garnering over 111,000 likes in a month (shown below).
On the same day, the isolated meme was posted to /r/coaxedintoasnafu,[4] titled "Me when I put more effort into an April Fools joke than into an actual update," garnering over 1,700 upvotes in the same span of time.
