Football players are easy to draw. Teams share brightly colored uniforms, and facial features are mostly obscured. The gear worn by football players is identical in every situation, allowing for easy shapes to color in gaps with.

It gets creepier. The world presented in professional football has a number of aspects that appeal to social outcasts, autistic men, and those simply seeking escape.

In football, not only are there lots of players, but players have clear roles. For example, they may be clearly be hired to be a quarterback or linebacker. They are also aided not only by their uniforms' coloration, but by having assigned numbers. People who find reality to be complex are attracted to this simpler existence where people ARE what they are and can easily be identified.

In football, teamwork is important. Players work together, and the only conflicts are between one team and another, which even then is heavily restricted. Most conflicts are settled by the end of the game. This is a misguided attempt by the referees to tell viewers to work out plans with friends. This creates an unrealistic standard where conflicts are expected to be settled within a confined set of rules in a short period of time.

People who like football take refuge in it, because the real world has people who aren't good sports. To a football fanatic, attempts at embracing their hobby are attempts to escape the truth: they can not live in our world, and thus choose to live in fantasy football.
