There should be a show called "You'll Never Find Out" where each week there's a new story with a new set of characters and it always ends on a cliffhanger. Well hello there satan NO BUT THEN IN THE SEASON FINALE THEY HAVE LIKE 3 MINUTE SPOTS TO SHOW THE CONCLUSIONS FOR ALL THE STORIES AND PLOT TWIST: All those unconnected stories? So each episode is a new story? I don't think that'd work the way they want.

Part of things ending like that, and the reaction it causes, is that people were given time to invest in the story. So when the payoff is as flaccid as Grandpa, it cuts deep. I don't think there'd be enough time to get them to care.

Maybe two stories a season? And the second story teases that it might, maybe, possibly be connected to the first. But it never is… it never is… Except in Season 4 when it actually looked like it was. But then it wasn't…
