The Bronx Rises Up To Tell 'Joker' Fans To Leave Their Stairs Alone
Well, it looks like there is a new tourist attraction in New York City. Following the release of the film Joker earlier this month, fans discovered that the Bronx was the true home of the infamous Joker Stairs and soon Instagram influencers were seen all over 167th Street to take their perfect photo.
However, many Bronx residents are rising up on Twitter to tell tourists to leave their stairs alone. In a segment dedicated to the now popular tourist destination, Bronx locals and comedians Desus & Mero couldn't help but mock the people flocking to their borough, because of all of the dangerous things that have happened to them on the stairs.
legally as a bronx resident you're allowed and encouraged to tax anyone visiting the joker stairs
— Desus Nice (@desusnice) October 17, 2019
People were very happy the comedians discussed the sudden influx of people heading to the borough.
thankful that desus and mero are here to clown on all the joker stairs people

Residents demonstrated fear that the movie would now cause the Bronx to become gentrified.
we had an entire convo on gentrification of the bronx stairs yesterday and i just gotta say you are all literally doing what the joker would not want you to do……fucking headasses

To others, taking a photo on the stairs really didn't make any sense unless they used the hashtag #asthmaattack.
They tryna say 167th stairs is a tourist attraction because of the Joker being filmed there and I am fuckin dead 😭😂😭 Them stairs ain’t nothing but an asthma attack and a swift robbery set up… But you know … Welcome to The South Bronx 😭😂

@robjameshoops please tell they legit didn’t make the stairs off Shakespeare Ave back home a “tourist attraction” because they filmed the Joker there. Tell me that ain’t true bro.

Mostly residents just didn't want their days to be interrupted.
What if we DIDN'T disrupt the Bronx residents going about their days with your #Joker nonsense?https://t.co/H72snpjFUB

And felt the need to stress just how unwelcome Joker fans were.
It’s really called the Joker Stairs on google now (I just searched it). Please, if you’re reading this and you’re not from around here (or ever been to the Bronx, Yankee stadium does not count) PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE. Thanks, Bronx Resident pic.twitter.com/s5u9gVPtyM

Some users didn't understand why people were so angry.

Why would #Bronx residents be mad that people are taking pictures on the "Joker Stairs"??? Confused
— 6S (@6SProductions) October 24, 2019
Several users even pointed out that New York is full of tourist attractions from other movies.
Everyone is making a big deal about tourists going to the “Joker stairs” in the Bronx. Like people don’t go and see buildings or places seen in movies? Like the firehouse from “Ghostbusters” or the stairs to the museum in “Rocky” pic.twitter.com/EGDuY4kru1

People predicted an armed incel rebellion and instead we got tourists taking pictures in the Bronx. I consider this a win: https://t.co/Um4j7A6hSv

Even the Bronx Borough President weighed in, but mostly to remind visitors to check out all of the other wonderful things going on in the Bronx.
When you visit, check out https://t.co/qc2jUsxztR and @TheBronxTourism and learn about some of our borough’s many fine attractions and restaurants…and spend some $$$ in The Bronx! https://t.co/wpBwGY4vcT

At the end of the day, at least the stairs have inspired creativity.
We turned the Joker stair-dancing scene into a commercial for boner pills. You’re welcome. pic.twitter.com/DTmZoxuRwc
