About

The Nutshack is a Filipino-American animated sitcom which aired on Myx TV in the United States and Myx in the Philippines. It is the first animated series geared towards a Filipino-American audience. The show has received overwhelmingly negative reception, particularly for its poor quality, juvenile humor, and repetitive theme song. It gained minor recognition after the end of GiIvasunner ARG,[4] along with an ironic fandom.

History

The Nutshack was created by Ramon Lopez & Jesse Hernandez as the first animated television series aimed at a Filipino-American audience.

The Nutshack first aired in 2007, with its second season airing in 2011. The show follows Filipino-American San Francisco native Phil, whose cousin Jack flies in from the Philippines to live with him in the Tenderloin district of the city.[1]

On July 23rd, 2007, PadillaFilms uploaded a video from the recording of The Nutshack theme song, garnering over 22,000 views in roughly 14 years (shown below).[11]



In 2017, MyxGlobal uploaded every episode of The Nutshack to YouTube[10] in a playlist (examples shown below, left and right).



Sometime prior to April 2017, Etika reacted to The Nutshack theme song while streaming (shown below). The video was re-uploaded to YouTube[12] on April 25th, 2017.



The Nutshack Theme Song Edits

The Nutshack Theme Song received heavy criticism from viewers who found it repetitive and annoying do to the repetition of the words, "It's The Nutshack" (shown below).



According to a Fandom page, on July 11th, YouTuber Silvagunner showed the theme song to The Nutshack at the opening of a stream, allegedly starting the meme.[13] This is not confirmed.

On July 30th, 2016, Ringabel uploaded a video to YouTube titled "Hotel Mario with every noun replaced with the entire nutshack theme." The video has since been deleted, but was once the earliest edit of the song on YouTube. The earliest video edit of The Nutshack theme song available on YouTube was uploaded on August 20th, 2016 by nyakka (shown below).[6]



Many Nutshack theme song edits are are word replacement remixes, videos where certain words or other aspects of a video are replaced with other things (examples shown below, left and right).[7][8]

On October 8th, 2016, Lessons In Meme Culture uploaded a video[9] explaining The Nutshack Theme Song edits, garnering over 580,000 views in roughly 4 years (shown below).



Reception

The show received negative reviews from critics throughout its run, and is considered one of the worst animated series ever produced with a 1.7/10 rating on iMDB[2] from 1,095 users. Many online reviewers such as Pan-Pizza and The Mysterious Mr. Enter have voiced their disapproval of the show, with the latter describing it as the worst cartoon of the 2000s.[3]

On November 15th, 2016, RebelTaxi uploaded a video retrospective on the series and its negative reception to YouTube[5] featuring interview clips from some of the creators of the show, garnering over 1 million views in 4 years (shown below).
