Another week of mind-numbing TikTok dances and lip-syncing has passed along with some new unnerving trends circulating across both "straight" and "alt" corners of the platform. Possibly the most disturbing is a trend involving young men roleplaying daddy and reclaiming a perfectly innocent song by Absofacto. Some other contenders include TikTokers using a Putin meme for clout and people spamming photos of Lin-Manuel Miranda biting his lip. In other news, the Queen of alt TikTok has taken an indefinite break from the platform, leaving all her oddball content and millions of followers.

Mooptopia Leaves

If you've ever scrolled the For You page and found a girl with bloodshot eyes speaking in tongues, that's Mooptopia. She joined TikTok in June and amassed over 1.3 million followers in a month. On July 15th, 2020, Mooptopia announced she would be quitting TikTok in a video saying "I'm sorry moops but its been a hard time for me lately and i must part away from tik too this has been a fun journey. thank u for all the kindness and laughs – i still, and need will, support trump or anything he stands for." Mooptopia fans, or Moops, are deeply mourning the loss of future inscrutable content. Let's take the time to review some of Mooptopia's best content.

Daddy POVs

Buckle up for some cringey, and also very creepy, videos that shouldn't even exist. This week, Watch Me Dissolve Daddy POVs came rose to the top of the Absofacto "Dissolve" sound page. This series of POV Roleplays typically involve participants roleplaying as a father speaking to members of their family. In some instances, the videos contain skits in which fathers are interrupted by their child in the middle of a sexual encounter. Totally gross. It's no surprise this trend led to a backlash on the platform and a response from Absofacto.

Wide Walking

Back in February, videos of Wide Vladimir Putin Walking were introduced to YouTube and soon became the perfect remix template. That wide saunter lived on in Discord and YouTuber for several months and now it's back in a new form on TikTok. "Imagine If" Wide Walks on TikTok add the snowclone "Imagine if X gets to the top of X hashtag/ I think that would be funny." Basically participants made themself wide to gain viewer traction on hashtag pages they would normally not be featured on. For example, one Walmart employee used the format to get to the top of #Target. It's that simple and that sad.

Lin-Manuel Miranda Lip Bite

TikTokers are really embracing their cringe roots with this one. The Lin-Manuel Miranda Lip Bite was a picture first posted by the Broadway composer himself on Twitter in 2018. TikTokers have now taken that lip bite (associated with salacious memes such as Girl Biting Lip and Fuckboy Emoji) and plastered it all over the For You page. Sometimes it's used as a bait-and-switch and sometimes it's used to express sincere love for the man. Either way, no one asked for this.
