I'm In This Photo and I Don't Like It refers to a retired Facebook report option for hiding photos from one's timeline. Online, the screenshot of the option and several reworded variations of it were circulated as reaction images.

Origin

"I'm In This Photo and I Don't Like It" is a retired Facebook report option for hiding images uploaded by other users from the timeline. The option could be accessed via opening a drop-down menu and selecting the option "I don't want to see this", which would produce a selection screen.^[1]

Spread

The first instance of usage of the screenshot of the menu as a reaction image is unknown. On August 4th, 2014, Facebook page Men's Humor uploaded the first known viral meme based on the screenshot, which gained over 8,200 likes in five years (shown below, left).^[2] In July 2016, the first known viral image utilizing the "I'm In This Photo" option as a punchline was circulated online (shown below, right). On July 13th, 2016, Know Your Meme user Pippeli cataloged the image on the website.^[3]

Starting in 2016, the screenshot of the report option has been used as a reaction image, including two-panel posts in which it was combined with other images. In many examples, the screenshot was edited to show such options as "I'm Not In This Photo and I Think I Should Be" and "I'm Not In This Photo and I Don't Like It".

For example, on January 28th, 2018, Redditor rparell uploaded a fan art image of Doki Doki Literature Club visual novel combined with the edited screenshot (shown below, left).^[4] The post gained over 1,600 upvotes in six months. On April 4th, 2019, Redditor samnit1253 made a post based on the screenshot in /r/me_irl subreddit which gaining over 51,700 upvotes in 24 hours (shown below, right).^[5]
