What Is '$KRONII' And Is It A Scam? VTuber 'Ouro Kronii's' Satirical Meme Coin Explained
There have been a lot of cryptocurrency scams lately thanks to the rise of meme coins, and now, VTuber Ouro Kronii seems to be embroiled in a big one over her recently launched "Kronii coin."
At least, it might seem that way if you're browsing social media without any context. In reality, $KRONII is a satirical meme coin meant to parody meme coin scams that started when Kronii became the victim of a crypto scammer herself.
So what exactly is $KRONII and is it something you can actually invest in? Here's what you need to know about the VTuber's fake meme coin.
What Is $KRONII?
In late January 2025, Ouro Kronii, a well-known virtual YouTuber, had her YouTube channel hacked to promote a cryptocurrency. The hacker scheduled a livestream on the VTuber's channel to promote the coin, which was quickly noticed by Kronii's fans who spread word of the hack.
Thankfully, Kronii got her channel back without much hassle not long after the incident.
Kronii decided to make light of the hack by scheduling her own livestream to promote the launch of $KRONII, also known as Kronii Coin, a meme coin based around the VTUber. The stream was clearly marked as satire and saw Kronii pretend to launch a meme coin by spouting nonsensical jargon at viewers to hype up the launch.
While Kronii didn't actually launch a coin, her stream did launch a whole lot of memes about the fictional Kronii Coin across social media.
How Is $KRONII Used In Memes?
Following the stream, Kronii's fans began making memes about $KRONII. Most of the memes imagine a future where Kronii Coin exists and was a total scam, resulting in a lot of people (and other VTubers) getting ripped off.
Some of the most viral memes are parody YouTube thumbnails meant to resemble the thumbnails of YouTubers who might report on the scam, like Coffeezilla and Cr1tikal.
Others are drawing fan art of Kronii supporting the coin and applying references to the coin to tried-and-true meme formats.
Since going viral, some people have started real $KRONII coins, however, none are officially endorsed by Kronii, so be wary of scams and people trying to take advantage of the joke.
