"Lala bop" is a slang term that first started gaining popularity online in late 2022. The exact origins aren't clear, but it seems to have taken off around November 2022, when TikToker @n3_diorr released a clip of the song "Lalabop" on the app. The song repeatedly uses the phrase throughout.

Later that year, an Urban Dictionary user defined the term for the first time. In their definition, they describe a lala bop as somebody who sleeps around and has a lot of transient partners. The term is used in a negative connotation.

What Is The Lala Bop Trend On TikTok?

Around December 2022, TikTokers began using the original sound for @n3_diorr's video featuring the "Lalabop" song. While some TikTokers used the video for dances and lip dub trends, other began using it to call out people they perceive to be lala bops. These include their friends, classmates and other TikTokers, with some even going so far as to tag them in the posts.

The trend took off in August 2023 when numerous lala bop accounts started appearing on the app, dedicated to airing out the alleged reasons why certain people are lala bops. The definition of the term started to become looser as people also aired people out for alleged problematic behavior that has nothing to do with being a lala bop.

The lala bop trend has become controversial quickly, inspiring backlash from some TikTokers who find it cruel that users are publically revealing this information about others. Many are also claiming that the videos are full of lies and users are simply making things up about the supposed lala bops to ruin their lives. This has led to videos criticizing the trend and parodying it by calling out fictional characters for being lala bops.
