Bill Nye the Science Guy would like your help in saving his life. He's not sick right now, but he'd like to avoid getting sick in the future. All you have to do is wear a mask.

In a pair of new TikTok videos, the Science Guy takes a look at a couple of masks, from surgical to the N95, and shows how well they block airflow from the mouth. If you watch the video, you'll see that he cannot blow out a candle when wearing the mask.

Obviously, Nye isn't concerned about a scourge of people going around town blowing out candles. He's worried about catching the coronavirus, which has already killed 130,000 people in the U.S. alone. Nye wants to protect himself from the possible illness floating around your respiratory system.

"So the reason we want you to wear a mask is to protect you, sure," explains Nye. "But the main reason we want you to wear a mask is to protect me from you, and the particles from your respiratory system from getting into my respiratory system."

"Everybody, this is a matter literally of life and death. And when I use the word literally I mean literally a matter of life and death. So when you're out in public, please wear a mask."

The two videos have already received more than a collective 5 million views and more than one million reactions on TikTok, plus another 540,000 views on Twitter.

The CDC agrees with Bill Nye. They recommend wearing a face cloth or mask whenever in public spaces, around people you don't live with or when other social distancing measures are impossible or difficult to maintain.
