Netflix's Twitter Co-opts "Say During Sex" Meme, Depressing Everybody
Every once in a while, Twitter users will come upon a fun little game that allows users to make some jokes, have some fun, and experience the joy of riffing with their peers for a little while to escape cold, corporate reality. Then Brand Twitter will join in and completely suck the fun out of it.
Such was the case yesterday, when the Netflix Twitter account tried its hand at the Name Something You Can Say During Dinner and During Sex meme and launched a series of Brand Twitter accounts murdering a meme in cold blood.
what’s something you can say during sex but also when you manage a brand twitter account?

The responses were swift and depressing, as brands across the website began using the meme to simultaneously joke and advertise their product, a cocktail that spells comedy doom.

Many were saddened by the sudden influx of brands making sex jokes/ads on their timelines.
Nothing has made me want to be alive less than this thread and that is not even hyperbole. I'm wrapped and done. https://t.co/tQF304TfHo

The amount of brands desperately latching on to this would be pathetic if we lived in anything close to resembling a good world. Instead, it’s just causing a very dull headache. https://t.co/hsukDcd4cU

Still, some enjoyed by the spirit of watching brands shoot sex puns back and forth.

Perhaps we should embrace this new reality where brands target any serotonin-releasing moment to sell us Natty Light Seltzer or whatever. It's just a part of life now. We might as well get used to it. And if you're not a fan, at least Steak-umm is here for you.
my mentions are full of people asking me to respond to that weird netflix tweet but after seeing the other brand responses i’m glad i sat this one out
