What's up with the idea that all black people like watermelons and fried chicken? I see it alot on the internet. Is it some racial stereotype?

Well, its roots are in slavery.
The reason for chicken and watermelon specificaly,was because slaves mostly ate Watermelon because it has alot of seeds to make more.Slaves were only given the last and worst part of the meat,because it tasted terrible and had bad texture mostof the time, slaves began to fry it using leftover grease.
Therefore,chicken and watermelon began as a stereotype for slaves,and was picked up as a stereotype for blacks.
tl;dr Slaves didn't have much food,those were both simple foods

Because Watermelon and Fried Chicken is delicious.

I think that's got something to do with the waffle house in the south.

I used to live in Florida, and there was a frickening waffle house on every corner, and they never cleaned anything, but it was cheap.

what doesn't help is that in the miniseries 'roots' there is a character that is meant to be a decendant of the book writer, alex hayley, that is called chicken george

Watermelons originated in Africa. Also, some slaveowners allowed their slaves to keep chickens. Neither of those tidbits are necessarily relevant to why the stereotype exists, but food for thought. Pun unintentional.
