I figured this was a big enough news story to split off from the Presidential Election thread. For a rundown, a Russian hacker stole 20,000 emails from the Democratic National Committee and Wikileaks has been posting them.
Highlights include:
- Ken Vogel, a reporter with Politico, runs a story about Clinton fundraising past Mark Paustenbach, the DNC's Deputy Communications Director "per agreement" prior to sending it to his editor. The final article is not altered from the one sent to the DNC.
- DNC Chair Wasserman emails Chuck Todd, political director for NBC News, with the subject line "Chuck, this must stop," requesting a phone call over an MSNBC Morning Joe segment about whether she should resign. She also contacted MSNBC President Phil Griffin about it. Chuck Todd has stated "I think it’s clear what it was. Someone complaining about coverage. Something that happens daily from every campaign we interact with."
- DNC's CFO discusses possible ways to exploit Sander's religion or lack thereof to sway Southern Baptists away from him. The DNC's CEO responds with 'AMEN.' Marshall has subsequently said he was referring to a "surrogate" and not Sanders.
- DNC Chair Wasserman calls Weaver, Sanders' campaign manager, an ass and a damn liar.
-
Mark Paustenbach, a communications official with the DNC, wonders if they can push a "Bernie narrative for a story" that his campaign is a mess after the donor list controversy. He's advised they'll have to leave it alone.
And lastly, - DNC spokesman Eric Walker calls a Buzzfeed article detailing the weak cybersecurity the DNC uses 'the dumbest thing I've ever heard.'
