this is not a religious thread, you don't need to belive in hell or god or anything. it's just for fun and perhaps lulz.

it is written somewhere in the jewish literature that hell is 4x larger than heaven. what do you think this could mean?
it could be something serious like, there 4x more bad people than good. or maybe it means that bad people take more space in hell… or maybe because all the torture gear takes up so much room…

what do you think? serious speculations are also welcome

Catholics believe in the many layers of hell whereas other religions believe in many levels of heaven. But if you think about this

who really cares what size it is.

Actually the official Catholic belief is just that hell is a bad place. There is never anything more specific in the bible than saying it has fire and bad people go there. The layers of hell stuff came about after Dante's Inferno was written.

There is a lot of stuff that a lot of religions took from dante's inferno but catholics do believe in purgatory and pray to get a soul out of it. There is a lot that people believe in that isn't in the bible.

"Jewish literature". At risk to sound nazi I have to say they had a fucked up sense of morality, back in the old days those words were written: "Lick the ass of the supreme boss and you will not suffer for the eternity like all the people that blamed you, so you can enjoy their pain from your safety zone." That's such kidlish, like "Be a good kid and I wont beat you!", just on a hardcore level. But that's how jewish people thought the whole universe work. No wonder they thought a so restricted number of people (THEY!) were allowed to heaven that it didn't need to be larger.

The Chinese culture believes there are 18 layers of hell, each with a horrific torture, like bioling pots of oil or being forced to climb knife mountains. Sounds like Greek mythology, right?
And their heaven is just one REALLY big heaven, full of islands and gods. And when I say gods, I mean gods. There are like 3000 different gods in Chinese culture.
I'm Christian myself, and I personally don't believe that.

apparently hell is a "state of existence without god"

A Mathematical Proof of the Non-Existence of Hell from the writings of the free-thinker Neiht, born in Brussels, 1877. "The area of the valley of Jehoshaphat is 60,000,000 sq. ms. … Supposing that each race originated with one couple only, one has five couples or ten people, and applying to them the principle of compound interest, up to the Flood there were 9,289,000 births in 1,658 years. Since the Flood up to our epoch 2,326 years have passed, during which, if only five couples survived, they would have produced 2,213,867,610,000 children. If these calculations are extended up to the year 2000, the resulting number is 34,326,414,259,675,172,000 which, together with the 9,289,000, makes 34,326,414,259,684,461,000 offspring. If one concedes, charitably, that all papists are saved, their number today being 1/7th of the population of the earth, that of the damned would be made up of those born before the Flood plus those born since the Flood up to the year 2000 minus the 1/7th of those born since the year 44, that of the birth of Christ: this number is 4,903,773,008,164,544,000, and the total of damned would be 29,422,641,251,519,917,000.

The valley of Jehoshaphat is the Gehenna of the Jews (Jehennam in the Koran)–the place of eternal torment. The word is derived from Gehinnom = the valley of Hinnom where sacrifices were offered to Moloch (2 Corinthians 33 6) (= Adremmelech–the God of Sepharvaim). In later times, all manner of refuse was dumped there and fires were constantly maintained to consume it. The sulfurous stench and the fire was the original of the Christian concept of Hell. (The estimate of Nieht of Gehenna's area 60 × 10^6 sq. m. is wrong, according to measurements taken on the spot by the Editors).

Meh. Even if it's 4x larger, Hell is probably pretty packed right now considering god send anyone who has violated the 10 commandments there. (And suprise! If Jesus isn't actually god all of you broke rule 1 and are going to hell!)

If I remember correctly, in Hindu/Buddhism you spend time in heavan or hell depending on your Karma ratio before getting spat back out into your next life.

Well I believe that Hell is just any place that has the absence of God. So Earth, the Solar System, Universe, everything is Hell because we are not with God. (I'm a Christian that has many different ideas from the church)

So the more karma whoring I do, the longer I spend in heaven?

Judaism actually has two informal conceptions of hell. The first, as previously mentioned, is called Gehennah, which was named after a valley near Jerusalem. In ancient times, a cult who sacrificed children lived there, and it gained a heinous reputation, which was worsened by the presence of hot springs which were believed to come up from the depths of the earth. Throughout the dark ages, the term "Gehennah" became synonymous with the Christian/Muslim concept of Hell. There is also a place called Sheol, which is like purgatory, but more similar to the Greek Underworld. This concept was in fact designed by Hellenistic Jews, so it's natural that the two should have the same root.

Nowadays, most Jews don't really have much belief in the concept of Hell and mainly believe in the existence of Heaven. This is held to mostly by Reform and Conservative Jews; I've no idea what the Orthodox think.

My opinion is that we're reincarnated every time we die and are placed in a new life based on what we did in the last one. If we've been good enough, we get to go to Heaven, which is like a big white realm where we can also do whatever we can imagine; and all that's after we learn what our purpose was in life, and other existential stuff.
If we've been bad, we get sent to live a new life in whatever is the current worst place on Earth, which, at the current time, would be Somalia. I don't believe in Hell.
That was a pretty generalized view of my opinions, so please don't hate.

I like how the Greeks, and Romans did shit. Everyone went to hell, regardless of how good you were, the way it should be.

It's not 4x larger, that is just false advertising. Like when Greenland named itself Greenland when IRL they are a floating piece of snow and ice. ie:
Satan:Well we may not have God, but heck look at all this space!

Hell is 4X bigger. It has to be, to hold all those people who commited crimes in the names of religion, swore, or fapped.

As for the definition of Hell, I'm pretty sure they only get dial-up down there. That's pretty bad.

Heavan: Only accepts people of one background based on religion. Even if you spend your entire life doing good deeds, you sin once you aren't getting in.

Hell: accepts people of any background, race, or gender! We grantee people will all be treated equally. At the low rent of 1 sin a month, you will be treated to a room with no charge to your heat bills! What's more? If you act now all your transportation to the various tools of pain attractions will be free of charge! Act now cause space is filling up fast!

If this thread is "for lulz" then we need to be posting some jokes about heaven and hell! Get to it people, I'll start:

This guy dies and goes to hell. The devil greets him and explains that while yes, hell is an unpleasant place, everyone is given options of how they will be tortured for eternity. The devil takes him down a hallway and tells him that he is going to show him his three options.

He opens the door to a room, and inside there are people standing on their heads on hot coals. He opens the door to another room, and there are people standing on their heads on nails and shards of broken glass. Finally, in the third room, people are standing right-side up, drinking coffee while they stand knee-deep in shit.

The guy says to the devil, "Well, this third room is pretty gross, but it looks quite preferable to the other two; I'll take it."

The devil walks the man into the room, closes the door behind them and shouts out, "Okay everybody; coffee break's over, back on your heads!"

Question: what if hell is not really that bad place we have been told? Filled of flames and stuff? Just think of this: Who said that? The supporters of the smaller place, the same ones that burned people alive for not being supporters, as to show a sample of what they are expecting to receive in the other place.

"Yeah! Our company is smaller than the other one, but it's not fucking your ass like they do!"

Whos to say that heaven and hell are ever expanding. Like the universe. I for one am not a religious man, but having space limits for heaven and hell seem silly. Once they fill up, your fucked.

There is no limits to the unknown because they constantly divide their space by zero results in more space. Heaven and hell can't do that because they'll end up with a blackhole. D:< Fuuuuuuuuu!!!

I like how you used bold print to give your post emphasis. Everyone saw it, regardless of how non-clever it was. Let's start a flame war! Flapjacks! 42!
